Our Story
Our story begins as many God stories do: in prayer. One night, while engaged in an extended prayer and worship session with a friend, I felt impressed to turn to Acts 13:2; "While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, 'set apart for me Paul and Barnabas for the work to which I have called them.'" Although I was enjoying my ministry assignment serving on staff at a church in a northern suburb of Boston, as I read this passage, it was impressed on my heart that we were being set apart to begin a new ministry closer to the city.
After sharing my heart with church elders, a process of prayer and counsel continued for a full year and culminated in confirmation that we were to move forward with the church plant. During this time a vision began to increasingly burn in our hearts for what this ministry might look like. We envisioned a church where the full gospel of repentance and faith in Jesus would be unashamedly preached for the glory of Christ and for the salvation of hungry souls prepared by God. We envisioned a church of diverse ethnicity and socioeconomic backgrounds that would welcome both families and young adults. We envisioned a church dedicated to prayer and worship, cultivating an environment saturated with the presence and power of God. We envisioned a church on a mission to reach the surrounding community with the love of Christ. We envisioned a church that would shine the light of Christ, piercing the spiritual darkness over the greater Boston area. This Church became known as Light of Life Church, based on the words of Jesus in John 8:12; “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life”.
A small core team was developed around this vision and began to meet at my home in February 2015. The focus during this time was not outreach, but rather to equip the church planting team and establish a strong loving community that would become the foundation for the work.
In December 2015 the church was planted in Cambridge, Massachusetts in the Alewife Plaza at 153 Alewife Brook Parkway. God blessed us with a strategic location right across the Alewife T Station, with easy access to both the city, as well as the suburbs along route 2. Light of Life Church is now established and has begun shining the light of Christ in Cambridge, Boston and beyond.
